Too Much Rain

June 3rd, 2010 Posted in bizzare, environment, global

About two months ago we were still experiencing the effects of a prolonged drought.  Back then all we wanted was rain.  Well for those wishes were granted.  It started to rain again, and not just any rain but monsoon rain.  For the past two weeks there have been intermittent flash flood.  Yesterday it poured so heavily that parts of KK were inundated with at almost a metre of flood waters.  Fortunately our area wasn’t affected.  In other parts of the world like Guatemala and the US, it was a disaster due to tropical storm Agatha.  In Guatemala City, a large sinkhole 60m deep opened up and swallowed a whole clothing factory.  Luckily no one was killed nor hurt in the incident.  What intrigued me was the depth and size of the hole itself.  It looked liked a bottomless pit.  I wonder how it looks like at the bottom.  Perhaps one needs Quoizel lighting down there.  It reminds me of  budget movie in which a large sink hole was discovered under a town.  In the movie they used hardening foam pumped into the hole to prevent the town from collapsing.  I just hope something like that won’t happen here.
