Tip of Borneo all to ourselves

February 19th, 2010 Posted in Tourism, environment

Yes that’s exactly how it felt like.  Last Tuesday, our family decided to drive north to Kudat to visit the Tip of Borneo at Simpang Mengayau.  Since both my wife and I were off work the whole week we also wanted to get away from KK and other family (:-) )  and just be ourselves.  However we did not anticipate sleeping over, but since there are chalets available just a few hundred metres from the Tip, we decided to pay the RM100/night fee for a cosy chalet.  We opted for Chalet No. 3 as it has the best view of all. Apart from the awesome view, the air is so mesmerisingly cool and fresh - nature’s best anti aging product. The amenities available were quite spartan, but for us that’s alright.

Electricity was only available from 6pm till 12 am.  Forget about having TV cos’ the night view is just amazing.  Look upwards and you will see the clearest starry sky ever.  Dining is available at the restaurant from 7:30 am till around 8 pm.  I would recommend bringing your own portable stove next time should you want to  cook or heat up something on you own.

During our stay, we were the only guest.  The three of us where the only ones at the Tip that night till morning as even the restaurant and operators went back to their homes by 9pm. However the management does provide 24-hour security and a few hundred metres further down, there’s a General Operations Force (police) outpost.  Nevertheless we really felt like we were the only ones out there that night.

yes it was fun too…we wanted to stay for another night but our son had a fever. I think heatstroke from staying under the sun for too long.

Did you take any sunset photos? I believe Tip of Borneo has very nice sunset view.
