My New Toy

February 21st, 2010 Posted in Photography

Recently I have acquired a dedicated macro lens to add to my photography arsenal.  I opted for a third-party lens for it’s affordability.  After reading the reviews, I decided on the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro lens.  Now I have the option to capture things so small at 1:1 magnification.  So far the reviews for the Sigma 15omm has been good.  I didn’t regret getting it.   The results so far has been amazing that you might even be able to capture acne nodules on one’s face.  Anyways that’s not the reason why I got it.  I’ve always been fascinated with close-up or macro photography.

I’m still learning to take macro shots.  So far I’m quite amazed at the results. Capturing bugs normally are the common photo subjects. These series were taken among my mom’s flowers.

Macro lenses are also good portrait lenses.  The sharpness level of the subject is great with reasonable bokeh background.

If you notice, there is a mosquito on my son’s forehead.

Minimum focus distance is 38cm/15in. Which is not bad. Longer focal length allows greater distance from subject so as not to distract it. I recommend to get at least a 90mm or higher.
