Month of Festivities

Yes it’s May again…the only festival that counts during the whole month is the Kaamatan Festival or harvest festival celebrated throughout Sabah. The festival is mainly celebrated by KadazanDusun and Murut ethnic groups but these days, all other ethnic groups in Sabah join the the joyous occasion too. One of the events early in the month is the Sabah Fest week. I especially like the traditional showcase held at the Heritage Village on the State Museum grounds. It’s nice to see youths from the interior who for a moment shed their hip hop clothing for a more colorful traditional attire. This month also serves as a reminder to all of us of the life that our ancestors used to have, which I believe is much simpler. Such simplicities now are taken for granted, we need to be reminded once in a while.
