Laying floor tiles can be tedious
July 24th, 2009 Posted in Business, PropertyYes…there’s no joke about it. If you’ve been to 1Borneo lately…you will noticed that the sub 2-year old building has already been shedding tiles. These tiles are not small..I guess you can say the tiles are industrial products grade type. Man..the tiles are breaking up in many places that the only solution is to put some cheap carpet over it.
It’s the same at Karamunsing Complex too. They have the same type of tiles there too. I’m sure those kinds aren’t cheap. I don’t think the workers were skilled enough to lay them. Some time ago I’ve inquired one Filipino contractor about it and he said it’s not an easy job…if it’s not done properly, some day it will start to bulge then just literally explode. And that’s what happened in our current quarters. Fortunately we don’t own it so…we didn’t really care much….so we just put something over the affected tiles.
So if you’re laying tiles in your house…make sure you get a very skilled worker.

1. Yes the workmanship is even more important than the tiles’ quality.
2. But how to know you’re getting a skilled worker, bearing in mind practically of them who’re on the ground are foreigners? And skilled is one thing, monitoring is another – so that supervisor/foreman/contractor need to ensure that – the houseowner can’t be there all the time.

Not many have the skills. So far this guy I know who has been laying tiles for most of our church members’ houses and even my house in Tamparuli is good at it…but he says it’s very tedious.
