Have you watched ‘Restrepo’?

April 22nd, 2011 Posted in Inspiration, Photography

A few months back National Geographic Channel featured the documentary about a platoon of American soldiers guarding an outpost in war torn Afghanistan called Restrepo.  The outpost named after one of their comrades who was killed during an operation.  The documentary was so fascinating that I downloaded the full feature as part of my collection.  The outpost in the documentary lies on top of a valley that is the frontline of allied and Taliban occupied territory.  Incursions occurs frequently so are the attacks.  Travels have to be done on foot or by helicopter due to the rough terrain.  I’m sure any vehicle will wear out their thrust bearings in those terrain.  That documentary portrays the hardship and anguish members of the platoon face everyday.

Little did I know, months later this week, the director and producer of the show, Tim Hetherington was killed while on photo assignment in the rebellion conflict in Libya.  He with another photojournalist, Chris Hondros was killed by a mortar attack by Libyan forces loyal to Gaddafi. His exploits in Afghanistan was real enough but unfortunately it was in Libya that he fell.  Such cost to one’s endeavour to tell a story.  RIP.

When I originally commented I appear to have clicked the -Notify me

a comment is added I receive four emails with the same comment.
Perhaps there is an easy method you can remove me from that service?
    Appreciate it!
