Buying property

September 19th, 2008 Posted in Business, Property, Sabah, global

The subprime mortgage crisis going on in the US has resulted in many foreclosures due to the owner inability to settle their mortgage.  This sounds scary considering you and your family will be out on the streets homeless.  It’s bad enough already the Americans, added with a few calamities of late like tornadoes, flooding and hurricanes.  I’m sure people there would like to vote for change.  Talking about change, the presidential nominees, Obama and McCain are slugging it out for the final leg of the the presidential race. Politics.

It’s like Malaysia…our politicians are still in the General Election honeymoon, still squabling about politics and less on people’s need.  The BN government are preoccupied with keeping the ‘frogs’ from jumping out and trying to pin one leader for allegedly sticking is dick in someone’s ass.  While the opposition are busy trying to woo ‘frogs’.

Anyways…due to all this politicking, less attention has been given to the nation’s economy and increasing the livelihood of the citizens.  Prices of properties have risen. My wife and I plan to find a house within the vicinity of our workplace but it’s so hard to find one that is reasonable.  Spending RM250K on a 1500 sq ft house for example is just to high.  Of course what do we expect if the house is in a strategic location.  I would rather spend that amount on a land lot and build my own house from scratch.

Buying property is pretty much like gambling. If not properly played you’ll be sorry.  That’s just the house….whatever goes inside needs to be purchased.  Well there’s always discount furniture available.

Building your house from scratch has its own troubles - no wonder people prefer to buy a readymade house rather than building one - I will have a lot of stories to tell by early next year when my house is (hopefully) completed. I think it’s one of the great adventures of one’s life.

But in the end…I think it will be worth the anxiety. Looking forward for you to share your experience. We are contemplating on building our own…but have yet to find a suitable land.
