Building shaking at work

January 7th, 2010 Posted in Work

After two weeks of leave, I returned to the office not so much to the enthusiasm of working in the new year but rather to the constant pounding of pneumatic pounders and also ground shaking next to our office building.  Fortunately I was not around when the contractor started to tear down the old Land and Survey block at the MOF complex.  After the main structure was gone, then there was the strong foundation (I think) to be removed.  That requires a lot of pounding after the foundation was weakened by dropping tonnes of dead weight on it.  A colleague managed to capture how it was done but I noticed that if the operator made a slight error, he might end up being dead himself.  I do hope he has life insurance.
